A Masonic Lodge is Born

The Birth of a Travelling Lodge – A Character Analysis © Alexander Kieding

Summary: The Lodge is equipped to endure the chaos of the coming two decades; it will inspire intellectually honest discussions and investigations; fruitful meetings of opposites, and be a shelter for inspiration from the Wisdom of Past Masters; it will have a stronger and potentially more intimidating effect on the Masonic Community than its members will tend to assume; it will tend to inspire its brethren to openness and transcendence and it will demand discretion and discipline.

The Semi Long Version
Seen as a being, a Masonic Lodge is a female. When it comes to gender on a purely spiritual level, a male being exists through its actions; a female being acts through its existence. Its agency is its very being. A kind of catalyst.

Concisely: For her, to be is to do; for him, to do is to be

This means that a female being has an effect simply by existing. The Travelling Lodge Tycho Brahe has a male name, but that is not the name of the lodge itself; rather the name of the male being inspiring the lodge. The common denominator of Sir Tycho, as a nobleman born back in December 14 of 1546, and our Lodge born on May 17 of 2025, is Pluto in Aquarius:

Pluto, or Hades, in Aquarius, opening communities to restructuring

When Sir Tycho was born, Pluto had already moved through Aquarius for 11 years, and it would keep moving – or rather mowing – through this Sign of Community Structures (such as Finance, Law, Politics, Science and Religion) for another 14 years, reshaping the world as known at the time, not least by the radical reform of organized Christianity known as The Reformation and The Church of England of Henry VIII. The next time Pluto entered the Sign of Aquarius was in 1778, and it would move through this sign for 20 turbulent and transformative years, up to 1798.

And now, as of January 20, 2025, Pluto is back in Aquarius. Thus, our Lodge is well equipped to handle the times of turbulence to come, and chances are that posterity will deem the two turbulent decades to come just as fruitful as the two past periods of Pluto in Aquarius.

In the following character analysis, I will treat The Travelling Lodge Tycho Brahe no 4 as a female being, affecting the world through its very existence, thus a ”she”.

As a female being, she – no matter what her particular brethren will want to make of her – affects the world of lodges and grand lodges around her even if her members would make no special effort to do so. Her very existence will have an effect. Thus, her brethren should learn to be aware of the impression she makes and take responsibility for her influence upon other lodges and grand lodges.

Here are some of her main features:

With her Pluto trine her Sun, The Travelling Lodge Tycho Brahe no 4 is not likely to have everything around her completely settled. She will thrive with changes, and this can help her brethren to orient themselves in the turbulence of our times. Pluto, mowing its way through the community coherence of Aquarius these days, calls for precisely that.

Her life as a Travelling Lodge may go through quite a few changes; this, however, will not be a threat to her existence or even her identity, since she is wired to mature through changes. Had she been born, say, six months earlier, this would not have been the case. With each change, this Lodge, if treated with due respect, will affirm or even ennoble her more permanent characteristics.

She can develop a somewhat introspective atmosphere and thereby acquire a distinct sense of purpose over time. Her sense of self, connoted by the location of the Sun, together with a majority of the planets, is centered in the Second Quadrant of her Natal Chart, that is: West of MC but above DC. This place hides the qualities from the eyes of the outer world but keeps them notable for the Brethren of the Lodge. And the Sun, situated in practical Taurus, is linked to the intuitive Lord of the Underworld, Pluto, through a benevolent aspect, a trine

Companion of the Sun
Her Sun, or inner sense of Self, however, is not acting on its own. This inner sense of Self is closely accompanied by the slightly unsettling quality of Uranus, which – for better and for worse – will strip her of the placid sense of the orderly traditionalism so characteristic of Masonic work as well as of the sign of Taurus. In other words, we must help this Lodge to steer away from revolutionary radicalism when she inspires us to original and innovative impulses. For that she will. Brethren meeting under her starry vault will tend to see new and sometimes perhaps unconventional perspectives, and – once seen, they cannot be unseen again. Just because you see what’s fake doesn’t mean you see the truth. A fake conception is often replaced by another fake conception. In relation to the way this Travelling Lodge, through its brethren, will tend to see itself, the presence of Uranus behind the Sun means that there will always be an occasion to question what this Lodge is really all about.

Algol,“al-ghūl”
The triple fixed star Algol hovering behind this close conjunction will spice it up with a dark edge. This is a Lodge for morally responsible adults; Algol is dark waters and will require the light of ethical integrity. May we take it as a warning that Sir Tycho himself was reprimanded by His Majesty the King for neglecting his responsibility to maintain the fire in the Lighthouse, guiding frail ships in perilous, dark waters.

Aldebaran
Its sense of purpose, on the other hand, (MC, Midheaven, in Gemini) is blessed by the presence of the fixed star Aldebaran, inspiring the presence of a being held in great esteem, the Archangel Michael. This being is an archangel, meaning its principal medium of communication is inspiration. Not dreams or visions, or intuitions, but inspiration, and especially inspiration in relation to our quest for what is essential. This is the “name” (name = mission) of this being: Mi cha El? It is a question! This curiously common name is sacred language for the question that motivates each inspired heart, under his influence, to always pursue its quest. Exoterically, it is translated “Who is like God”, esoterically it means “who in what, and what in who, is essential for divine discernment”. For “El” is not simply a random pick in a pallet of designations for the Most High; it refers specifically to the quality of discernment; the ability and inclination to tell the difference between essence and appearance. And the incentive to go with the essence!

Add to this the square between bossy Mars in the flamboyant sign of Leo and communicative Mercury in orderly Taurus, and you have a recipe for probably fruitful but perhaps somewhat heated discussions. This Lodge will not be boring.

What will make this work? The answer is personal and communal discipline, a low profile externally, combined with strict and sombre ritual execution and a good mood even in the face of trials. The good mood is not just a sweetener. This, however, ought to be relatively easy, as her Sun/Uranus conjunction is intimately affected, through a sextile, with the subtle touch of stern Saturn and its conjunction with poetic Neptune and the spearhead of destiny, the Northern Lunar Node, ☊, touching base with DC, or the Gate of the Spirit.

Some Smart Sextiles
Sextiles (60°, blue) are the links of effortless congeniality, or ruthless luck. They connect otherwise isolated intelligences in a quicker-than-conscience manner and require neither effort nor reflection. Here is an illustration of this aspect:

Another one of those subtle yet intimate sextiles connect the coldly stern and sober Saturn and its trippy Neptune back to Pluto in Aquarius, which is one of the two coordinating hubs of her enigmatic aura. Contemplate their combined effect:

The Sun, thus, is affected both by the mental multidimensionality of Uranus and the emotional multidimensionality of Neptune. It will be easy for the self identity of this Lodge to stay alert and not stagnate in a loop of phrases, conventions and routines regarding her own self image and inner identity. She will always nurture the questions of not only what, but who she is, was and will be.

Some things will be more complicated that way. Other things will be easier.

She will tend to stay real, even when it doesn’t seem to pay off.

Inspired connection
Adding to the dynamic between these sextile qualities is the fact that Pluto also has a direct link to the Sun-Uranus conjunction through a rather harmonious trine, thus creating a smooth circulation well out of sight for worldly eyes, but visible to the World of Spirit – beholding her secrets in the light of the setting sun and the setting planets and stars in general. The Western Horizon. How so?

So: This intense and actually graceful (albeit dangerously so) circulation is not visible to the eyes and feelers of this world: It is located fully to the west of the MC-IC-Curtain. But it is, precisely therefore, fully accessible to the World of Spirit, from which inspirations will whisper in our souls as we open this Lodge.

A Trine
A third connection to Pluto (there are six) is to said MC, the point of purpose, which, by the Grace of the Thrice Great Architect, is located in the fortunate Sign of Relations (Gemini). This aspect indicates that this lodge will tend to funnel its brethren’s resources and intuitive talents to the best of her ability in order to create relational purpose, and that even while quite young. As her brethren, we just have to make sure to stay humble, grounded, and aware of her relational purpose, which is the very raison d’etré of this inherently ambitious Travelling Lodge. MC, Media Coeli, is the Mount Sinai of a beings mission. Contemplate this trine:

The Squares
The fourth and the fifth aspects to Pluto are of a more challenging nature. They are squares. A square angle indicates some kind of inevitable friction or resistance. It is, however, in the overcoming of such resistance that a being will mature, grow stamina and ennoble character, and this is true also for a consecrated, Masonic lodge. And this particular lodge has many means at her disposal in dealing with the challenges evoked by these square aspects.

So, which are these two challenging aspects?

The first one is Pluto square Mercury. In plain English, this means that there is something in the way the Lodge interacts with the world that will appear threatening or even offensive, unless properly pruned and carefully curbed:

Pluto square Mercury gives a sense of authority, or hidden interactive power. At best: leverage in negotiations and power of conviction. At worst: intimidating at first glance, thus hard to trust in spite of convincing arguments and good intent.

Point of Radiant Pain
We all have it. A point of pain that just doesn’t go away; a wound that will not heal. A sting without apparent cause, seemingly related to existence as such.

Each incarnated being has it, even a properly consecrated Masonic Lodge. Our Lodge has this point in the Sign of Initiative. This means that every time an initiative is taken in the name of this Lodge, a sense of discomfort is activated.

The downside of this is obvious. We are programmed by Divine Wisdom to avoid pain. But there is an upside, and it is concealed in a mystery, namely the Mystery of Light. Not the kind of light that illumines our tables and chairs. Not even the kind of light that illuminates our memories. This is a third kind of light; one that does not disturb the dark and its inhabitants

If the first light is akin to sunlight; the second to moonlight, then this third light is akin to starlight.

Now, this light does not come to us in the form of light. It must first be unpacked. And the delivery is wrapped in pain. We are, as we know, inclined by wise instincts to avoid pain. But if we recognize a certain quality of pain as a special delivery, that we welcome into our lives, it will, gradually or suddenly, transform into a power of vision.

This vision is a little bit akin to x-ray vision or perhaps a view through military Night Vision goggles.

Seen through such eyes, the world looks different, but recognizable.

We will perceive phenomena, activities and perhaps even actors that shun the light of Sun and even Moon. We will perceive in Astral Light.

Reflective men and women have always known about this light and its cosmic source. But the physical identification point is not visible from Earth. And it was not discovered until recent times, in 1977. Before this, it was impossible to pinpoint the cosmic source of it. Now it is done routinely, and this sheds light on enigmatic aspects of souls of all eras.

In the case of a Masonic Lodge, this pain may touch its brethren, but for the soul of the Lodge itself it usually is graciously accepted, absorbed and graces the community of the Lodge with clarity and wisdom.

The planet – actually a small splinter of a comet – that signifies this pain is called Chiron. It is akin to an incurable, bleeding wound the blood of which can heal other wounds. So, when accepting and embracing the pain of taking initiatives in the name of our Lodge, this pain can become a healing light.
Meet an associate of our Pluto: Chiron in Aries.

Chiron in Aries: healing pain in initiative

Now, does this healing light of clarified pain have somewhere to go? It does. For there is yet another aspect that links to Chiron, namely a swift, silent sextile. And it connects Chiron to the sense of potential; visionary Jupiter. Now, you can imagine what this signifies: An enhanced vision of potential. This Lodge can see relational possibilities as its mission, where others will see nothing at all, or even worse, problems to be avoided.

A Masonic Embassy would benefit from this combination of aspects:

Chiron funneling a sextile stream of purged pain to deepen the vision of Jupiter in Gemini

The Opposition
Now to the final aspect of our Pluto in Aquarius Hub. This is an opposition. An opposition is not as abrasive as a square, but it still gives a slight sense of resistance, just enough to keep us active and focused.

This is a good thing. Oppositions are subtle enough to pass relatively unnoticed in daily life, yet distinct enough to make an actutal difference. Thus, they help us to gain strength and build character and stamina. This, however, is not just any opposition. It is Pluto in Aquarius of the new generation in opposition to warlike Mars in fiery Leo. This sparkles of charisma but also of some latent paranoia.

Noble Charisma
Even a good thing does, however, cast a shadow. And the shadow side of Mars in Leo opposing Pluto in Aquarius is a sometimes self-fulfilling suspicion of being seen as boisterous, provocative or somehow rebellious. Which, in turn, can give our Lodge an air of being a glorious victim, unless its brethren are careful not to be too careful, so to speak.

This suspicion will, furthermore, not always be unfounded, since reform will be called for during the coming decades of turbulence, as Pluto slowly makes its way through Aquarius. If The Tycho Brahe Travelling Lodge 4 comes through these turbulent times with the dignity of high ethical standards, it will become a blessing, perhaps even an embassy, to the Masonic World.

If not, it will be a fading memory of a sad source of trouble.

Over time, however, this quality can mature to an air of noble charisma.

So, to the communicators of this Lodge: A little goes a long way. Less is more. This Lodge can weaponize anything its brethren communicate in its name, or so it may appear. Thus, diplomacy and discretion will be of utmost necessity. Speak softly. External brethren will easily get a little nervous in the face of her brethren. The brethren of our Travelling Lodge gently need to remind themselves, and perhaps one another, again and again, perhaps like this:

Most precious member of Tycho Brahe no 4, you have to be careful how you talk to other brethren, for they may feel that you are trying to push them into an opinion or point of view with which they may not agree. You must try very hard to speak in such a way that your brother feels that you respect his point of view. Do not dictate or be too forceful in expressing your opinions. If you can learn to be gentler in your expression, then you can open other brethren to your point of view. If others disagree with you, it does not mean that you are wrong. Nor necessarily right.

It only means that you have to scrutinize your own beliefs very carefully. That about the challenging Pluto in Aquarius Hub.

The Other Hub
Then there is the Moon in Capricorn hub. In many ways, the Moon in Capricorn is the medicine that helps us balance out potential negative effects of the Pluto in Aquarius hub. For how is the Moon, and how is the sign of Capricorn?

The Moon is the knowing through feeling type of intelligence. The Sign of Capricorn inspires ambition. Together, they create a healthy mood of quiet striving that takes an unsentimental pride in accomplishing set goals. Jolly moods and happy get-togethers are not the priority here. The priority is to become a prominent force for good in the Masonic world, once Pluto is done unsettling the structures of law, finance and politics in the world at large (somewhere around the year 2046).  And since the Moon trines the Sun, there will be a certain sense of confidence that this actually may succeed. And since the very same Moon, furthermore, is a part of the Grand Trine involving communicative Mercury as well as the actual forum for interaction with the external world (AC, the Eastern Horizon) it’s… well, looking hopeful.

Grand Trines
This is a Grand Trine (likesided triangle around the entire chart) in the Element of Earth, meaning: it comes off as stable, as grounded and as practical minded. That in itself counteracts the heisty nervousness evoked by Pluto’s squaring Mercury and opposing Mars. And its opening to the world… Look at its beauty!

This Grand Trine is a true blessing. It connects the interface to this world (AC) with the turbulent Zeitgeist (Pluto in Aquarius) and the innovative Inner Self of the Lodge (Sun conjunct Uranus). Through this Grand Trine, she presents herself as an intuitively updated Lodge graced with a dash of self distance that speaks of a dignified humility.

A Grand Trine does signify a kind of general good luck. You may stumble as often as anyone else, but you do tend to gracefully roll over and get back up on your feet before anyone notices that you’ve fallen. For a Masonic Lodge, this means that her inevitable times of crisis will not evoke feelings of panic and despair. Mishaps will appear, but they will just in time to prevent catastrophes, and thus be blessings in disguise. Like losing your expensive ticket to the M/S Titanic right before entry.

But there’s another Grand Trine as well. It, too, involves the Moon Hub, but its other two corners are The Sun/Uranus conjunction and the Southern Lunar Node

The Sun/Uranus conjunction is already characterized, but the Lunar Nodes are not. Together these nodes point to the Whence and Whither; in other words: The where from and the where to – Origin and Destiny – of the being of our Lodge.

The Southern Lunar Node indicates Origin; which qualities a being brought with it into this life through the Gate of Birth. The Northern Lunar Node indicates Destiny; which qualities, once acquired through life, that same being aims to bring with it through the Gate of Death

Fittingly, this Node of Destiny is, in the case of our Lodge, in conjunction with DC, the Gate of the Spirit or the Horizon of the Setting Sun, in the Sign of Transcendence (Pisces).

We all know the transcendent feeling of silently watching a sunset. When the Sign of Pisces is the cosmic foundation of this horizon, its transcendence will be magnified. And when your destiny points to this magnificence, it fills your being with a sense of sacred purpose.

But back to the Grand Trine. It is the Node not of Destiny but of Origin, and the Wisdom of the Voices of Masters Past, which is connected to the magic of the Grand Trine. This infuses a sense of noble heirdom to our Lodge.

This heirdom reflects gracefully in its classical motto SIC ITUR AD ASTRA, taken from Vergilius’ comment to the heroic life and death of the couple Nisus and Eyrialus: “Now, that’s how you march to the stars, becoming famous across the heavens!”. The last part of the sentence reflects Sir Tycho’s own motto, IMMORTALES SUMMUS IN AETERNUM, “immortal in eternity”.

Let’s include this digression in the considerations of the present analysis.

On the Natal Chart of our Lodge, the heirdom, ☋, looks like this:

Concisely: This Lodge comes from a place of purity and desire for order – that is its inherent qualities – and it aims for a place of transcendence and desire for inspiration.

And its ”emotional intelligence” (the Moon) resonates harmoniously with its core essence (Sun) ripping the veil of illusion (Uranus) from whatever it focuses on, as well as with its inherent sense (South Node) of purity and order (Virgo). These three have a circular resonance of harmonious influence on one another.

Two Grand Trines, united by a wise feeling in the Sign of Ambition, is not bad.

Let us look at these two Grand Trines together now, and see if we can feel them:

The Saturn-Neptune Conjunction
The lofty Goal of Transcendence is both curbed and enhanced by a conjunction to Saturn and Neptune. Saturn gives it the quality of sober discipline and healthy restriction; Neptune tends to give everything a poetic, sometimes surreal sense of paradox. Thus, when Saturn tells us to be restrictive, Neptune will whisper that abundant restriction can be indulgence, and that sobriety itself can be quite intoxicating. All in all, the close company of Saturn and Neptune can be confusing, and is best dealt with through a modest dash of black humor. Especially when one is tempted to complain.

The Saturn-Neptune-Conjunction by the North Node

Members of opposing values and ideological backgrounds are given an opportunity to connect and even reconcile their differences under the maternal wings of this lodge. This is because Mercury (the spirit of exchange, communication) is squaring Mars, the spirit of confrontation and implementation. Sharp dialogue is to be expected but not to be feared. The Lodge is wired to accommodate this.

And, again, its ultimate goal is transcendence

A Final Look
At last, let us dare a glance at the entire symphony of resonant aspects that comprise the totality of this Lodge. It is more than the ones we have discussed. But it is like with a human soul: There is always more. Always.

Untrained eyes will have to get used to this cosmic script gradually. For some, it will come naturally, like a recollection; for others it can take years or more. But it can be done, the script does make sense, it can be read, even felt, sensed and heard. Those who take an interest will recognize the aspects we have described. In a proper horoscope, they are not presented as broad and transparent strokes, but as sharp and distinct lines and angles in red and in blue. There are even green and dotted lines of some significance, but that is a bit much to start with.

When listening to a symphony, you will first hear a massive, single impression of moving sound. Eventually, you will be able to identify single voices and instruments. Again: Some will do it very soon, others perhaps after many years or more. In the above, some of the major voices and instruments have been presented. Some harmonies, such as the two Grand Trines, and some chords as well. The following is an invitation to behold the totality, and, in contemplation of the details, discover line after line of major and minor harmonies and chords.

Each tone, each melody and each timbre, is a moral or mental quality. Together they form the symphony of a soul. In this case, the soul of a Masonic Lodge: Travelling Lodge Tycho Brahe No 4, under the Grand Lodge of the Principality Liechtenstein, consecrated Saturday, May 17th at 2pm, Landskrona, Sweden.

– SIC ITUR AD ASTRA –

And again: There is, of course, more. There is always more. But this will give us food for thought whenever we feel the need to contemplate the nature of this femininely enigmatic being consecrated as The Travelling Lodge Tycho Brahe no 4.

In gratitude and reverence,
fraternally yours,

Alexander Kieding, X Svea, SFMO (the Swedish Free Masonic Order)
